Finally Eliminate Embarrassing Chunked and Bladed Shots for Good...

"Fix these 'Big 3' Mistakes that Destroy Your Impact So that Solid Contact and Penetrating Shots Become Your New Norm, Even without a Perfect Swing."

Hey, it's Clay Ballard and I'm curious about something...

Do you ever have a bad day with your irons and wedges?

Man, are those days miserable.

Embarrassing chunks...

Bladed shots galore...

Approaches that fly off target like a bad joke...

Heck, it doesn't even have to be an entire round.

Just a single skulled iron or fat wedge can wreck an otherwise solid effort...

... And make you feel like a rank beginner.

As we all know, chunks and thins are your basic double-whammy:

Score-killing and embarrassing. They can crush your confidence, too.

They make you look like a complete newbie when you're not, and might even make you avoid certain clubs for the rest of the round.

But what if instead...?

What if every time you faced a shot off the ground...

No matter the lie, from firm to fluffy...

No matter the club, be it an iron, a wedge, a hybrid or even a fairway wood...

And no matter the pressure, even with a club championship on the line...

You had 100% confidence...

That you'd make clean, ball-then-turf contact...

Smack in the center of the clubface...

And send a perfectly flighted dart to the exact spot where you were looking.

Not only would you feel - and look - great...

It would also do wonders for your scores.

In fact, improving your iron and wedge play is the No. 1 way to take your game to the next level. So says the "King of Golf Data" himself.

No less an expert than Mark Broadie, the Columbia professor who created the groundbreaking "Strokes Gained" metric, came to this conclusion:

"My analysis of millions of golf shots reveals a consistent finding: Approach shots account for the biggest scoring advantage between golfers of every skill level."

That's as definitive as it gets.

Of course, it makes sense that the more greens you hit, the more birdies and pars you'll make and the better you'll score.

But it goes deeper than that.

See, when the best iron and wedge players do miss a green, they don't miss by much.

Put another way, their misses are good misses - and that's...

The overlooked key to consistently lower scores.

Think about tour pros.

How often do they make a swing and turn away in disgust, only for the ball to finish within 30 feet of the hole?

You've seen it a million times, right?

Well, that's where I want you to get.

Put another way:

  • I want you to turn your bad shots into good ones...
  • Your good shots into great ones...
  • And raise your expectations for what success actually looks like.

So... how are you gonna do that?

Simple:

By increasing your margin of error.

Here's what I mean:

Let's say that today, your divots on solid shots typically start directly under the ball and bottom out an inch or two in front. That tells me your club is entering and exiting the impact area on a pretty steep path.

And it means your margin of error is only 1/4 inch - 1 inch.

That's tiny - especially when you compare it to the 4- to 6-inch margin better players enjoy.

It's not only easy to fall outside that slim 1/4 inch - 1 inch window you currently have, the results are often disastrous when you do.

It's why your fat shots are monster chunks that go nowhere, while your thin shots break the sounds barrier as they fly into the trees.

Contrast that with the game's best players and their 4" - 6" margin.

Their divots start just in front of the ball, with the low point about 4 inches past that.

This shallower angle means they can hit behind the ball without taking much turf... so they only lose a little distance (and still get on or near the green).

And because they always get the club's leading edge below the ball's equator, their thin shots still have plenty of height and spin, don't fly a million yards, and stop pretty quickly when they land.

Basically, their swings open a 4" - 6" window of good to great contact.

Watch the video below to see how it works:

That, my friend, is the stuff of great, consistent golf.

Here's another thing to notice about skilled iron and wedge players:

Their divots look different than everyone else's.

For starters, they're shallow - unlike the ankle-deep trenches you see lesser golfers gouge.

Good divots also tend to be fairly thin from side to side.

perfect divot toe down

Left: A square club face and proper shaft angle (top) create a perfect, “dollar-bill divot” (bottom) and long, straight shots. Right: A toe-down impact position opens the face (top) and causes a crooked divot (bottom) and shots to match.

And while they might be pretty long, they're basically straight.

That's why we call ‘em "dollar-bill divots."

Which is appropriate, because... with apologies to whoever coined the phrase, "Drive for show, putt for dough"...

Irons and wedges are the real money clubs.

(In today's game, I'd throw hybrids in there, too. And it never hurts to be handy with the fairway woods, especially as you get up in years.)

The question is, why is your margin of error so small... and your divots so, well... less than lovely?

Because you're almost certainly committing at least one of these:

The 3 BIG mistakes preventing you from making consistently solid, ball-then-turf contact.

These mistakes are extremely common.

I see them in everyone from 25+ handicaps down into the single-digits.

They're easy habits to fall into, and often hard to break.

The first is what I call "Location vs. Elevation."

The second involves your weight shift through the shot.

And the third is that old bugaboo, a steep downswing.

Like I said, these are very common faults that can be tough to cure.

Tough, but far from impossible, as you'll find out shortly.

Keep reading and I'll explain the 3 big mistakes in more detail.

I'll also tell you how to eliminate each and every one.

Along the way, you'll discover the quickest, surest way to increase your margin of error up to that magical 4" - 6" zone...

... So your "fat" shots still get plenty of distance - reaching the green or coming very close...

... While your "thin" ones carry fairly high with enough spin to stop when they land.

In other words:

Even when your swing's not perfect, your shots will be perfectly playable.

And that's every golfer's dream, and the way you shoot lower scores not by chance, but consistently.

So , let's dive into those three BIG mistakes that I'll bet are keeping you from getting your divots where they belong - in front of the ball.

1. BIG Mistake No. 1: "Location vs. Elevation"

Simply put, the low point of your swing - or where the club reaches the very bottom of its arc before moving back up - MUST be in front of the ball (on the target side).

That's "location."

The deepest part of your divots marks your swing’s location. Ideally, that’s about 4 inches in front of the ball.

Anywhere behind that means your location is off.

Unfortunately, too many players mistake their location problem for an issue of “elevation.”

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

  • You hit an inch or two behind the ball, a crummy chunk that leaves you way short of the green (and makes you absolutely furious). Analyzing your mistake, you assume you swung down too steeply
  • On the next shot, you try more of a “sweeping” swing that picks the ball cleanly, and...
  • You blade it over the world

The opposite often happens too, where you adjust to a thin shot by hitting down more sharply... and catch the next one fat.

In other words, you're changing the elevation of your swing (up and down) rather than the location of your low point (side to side).

elevation

Changing the “elevation” (up and down arrows) of your swing only leads to more mishits. Instead, you must fix your “location” (left to right arrows), or where your swing bottoms out.

I'll show you how to fix this problem and move the bottom point of your swing to about 4" in front of the ball - just like the pros.

Curing this fault alone will improve your ball striking a ton, giving you a quick and lasting win that pays off for the long haul.

OK, let's move to:

2. BIG Mistake No. 2: An Out-of-Whack Weight Shift

Usually, this happens when you know what you're supposed to do, but try so hard to get it right that you overdo it - with awful results.

Here's the deal... You've been taught that to make ball-first contact, you have to get your weight onto your left (lead) side starting the downswing. Which is true.

But in doing this, you run into one (if not both) of these problems:

1. You "reverse pivot," starting with more weight on your left side as a sort of "cheat" or shortcut. Coming down, you naturally shift back to your right and move the low point behind the ball.

hanging back

Here’s what happens when you “reverse pivot” instead of shifting weight to your lead side on the downswing. Not pretty, is it?

2. You get "centered left," with weight basically staying on your lead side throughout the swing. This saps your power, makes it nearly impossible to square the face, and, well, you get the idea.

Which brings us to...

3. BIG Mistake No. 3: Swinging Too Steep

Finally, the fault that sabotages so many recreational golfers' games.

You can be in good shape at the top, then "cast" the club and create a steep angle into the ball.

In fact, I see many players struggle with steepness as they're learning to get their divots in front of the ball.

Don't worry - I've got drills that will fix it right away.

casting

Casting the club like this, especially on shots off the ground, could be the cause of your inconsistent contact.

Now to sum things up...

If you fail to make consistent ball-then-turf contact, there's a 99% chance you have one of the above flaws... and probably a combination of the three.

Now, while I can't claim to know anything about your talent, your skill level, your age or your current handicap...

... I feel comfortable saying this:

You're driven to play the best golf you possibly can.

At the very least, you want to play consistently well, shoot lower scores and enjoy this great game to the fullest.

And if you get into your pals' pockets a lot more often, that would be a nice bonus.

Right? I thought so.

Well if those are your goals, then...

Dialing in your approach shots is an absolute MUST.

And doing that means building a swing that produces ball-then-turf contact.

Automatically. Every time. Like you were born doing it.

There's a little more to it than just "hitting the little ball before the big ball," as the saying goes.

Where you actually strike the ball, and the ground, is extremely important.

It's a game of inches, after all.

Those are the inches separating a shot that's chunked into the water from one that climbs onto the green's front edge...

Or takes a single sweet hop and dances up to the hole for a tap-in birdie.

Those inches also separate golfers who routinely break 80 (if not 75 or even 70) from those who are happy to see the sunny side of 90.

And those are the inches you'll own thanks to my brand new Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass.

In this video-based online course, I give you a series of simple yet highly effective drills - many of which I developed myself, and others I've modified to suit this specific program...

... Plus a foolproof way to measure your progress and stay on track the whole way through...

... So that by the time you've finished the drills, you'll be flushing nearly every shot you play off the deck.

clay making contact

Drills like this one will move your divots in front of the ball for consistently pure contact and deadly accurate shots.

My Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass was created to permanently eliminate these swing-killing mistakes.

In the interest of full disclosure, I will tell you it won't happen in a single practice session.

But... If you're committed to completing a series of drills that build on each other...

And taking your time to do each rep at the proper swing length and pace...

Without rushing or skipping steps...

Then I promise you...

In your very first round after finishing the course, you WILL make ball-then-turf contact on every shot played without a tee.

And your results will only get better from there.

I know this because these drills are proven to work.

"INSTANTLY fixed nearly everything"

"Man this has transformed my shot. INSTANTLY fixed nearly everything. I've never cracked em so consistently. I feel like I owe u a round at the bar. Cheers."

"I am a believer"

"Had one of my worst days of golf Tuesday - topping fairway wood after fairway wood. Stumbled upon this ... last night and was intrigued. Went back to the same course this morning and decided to give it a whirl. Got there early and literally picked up a bucket of range balls and tried the technique with the fairway wood that was giving me trouble. Expected absolutely nothing. First shot went 175 yards straight as the proverbial arrow. Stunned. Tried it again. The same. Again. The same. I was nearly trembling as I could not believe what I was witnessing.

I hadn't thought about playing today, but decided to try nine holes. Wound up playing 18 and reduced yesterday's score by 18 strokes - literally a stroke per hole. The most difficult Par 4 for me on this course usually winds up with me feeling grateful for a six and ecstatic when I get a five. My second shot landed dead middle of the green and I recorded my first-ever birdie on that hole. Had it not been for some poor putting on two holes the improvement could have been 20.

I'm still flabbergasted. It seemed too easy of a fix, but I am a believer. Ironically none of my normal playing partners were there to witness it, but I did have one man walking his dog on the course applaud my approach shot from 155 yards out that landed on the green. Wasn't pin high, but definitely a lot better than the normal 20 yards shorts and way to the right or left. Thanks!"

@leegrant322

"Farther with less effort"

"My index has risen from 13 to 17 due to terrible ball striking. I used your drills today prior to playing. Felt the weight transfer and took it to the course. Shot a 78! Hit ball first, shallow divot, swinging under control! Seemed like ball was traveling farther with less effort. Terrific teaching!"

@joeober4794

"My golf game has completely transformed"

"Holy crap! This is the single greatest video on hitting irons on the internet. My golf game has completely transformed. It has increased my yardage by about 20-30 yards per club! The shots are deadly straight and my turf divots look like they were trenched out by a machine. You sir are an actual god. Thank you thank you thank you. You have a devout follower and subscriber for life."

@stevscol

"Magic... One-session magic"

"Magic. I took this drill to the range today ... Combined with a reference line, I hit 90% of my shots with ball first contact. I have more work to do, but this was one-session magic. Thank you Clay."

@rolo1054

"I started hitting more consistently"

"I usually chicken out of my swing but when u said the low point of the club is in front of the ball something clicked and i started hitting more consistently. Thank you!!"

@stormeagle

"Confidence I've never had before"

"... I watch all your videos Clay but somehow here you got the right combination of words to finally give me the confidence to swing through the ball. I have hit some of the best iron shots ever, with a sense of confidence I've never had before. Specifically the explanation of how the shaft leaning forwards brings the contact point further up the face, of course! I've always known I needed forward shaft lean but never really understood why. Secondly getting the hands low for me was a game changer, never been told to do this before, in fact quite the opposite, but this really got me "covering" the ball with some real shaft lean ... And lastly the step drill was brilliant for demonstrating how early the weight has to move left, even before I've completed my back-swing. In fact I've hit some of my best irons ever actually stepping through the shot ... Thank you so much."

- @clivebrooker1

Before I go into the specifics of this in-depth yet easy-to-follow course, let me tell you what I'm NOT promising.

I'm NOT promising that when you finish my Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass, you'll start hitting one perfect shot after another.

Literally no one - not even Hogan or Nicklaus or Tiger - has ever done that. And I'm fairly sure no one ever will.

Instead...

The goal is to increase your margin of error up to that 4" - 6" sweet spot where the very best golfers live...

So that even your worst approach shots are actually pretty doggone good...

While a whole bunch of your irons and wedges each round are very good...

And more than a few are absolutely...

Positively...

PURE.

That's the view from 30,000 feet.

There's a lot more good stuff waiting when you finish the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass.

Here's just some of what you can expect:

  • Extra distance with every iron, wedge and hybrid, essentially "shortening" all your approach shots
  • Vastly improved accuracy throughout the bag, so every shot finishes closer to the target
  • A 4" - 6" margin of error in the impact zone (versus the 1" - 2" you probably have now), so you've got a decent chance to get up-and-down even when you miss
  • A controlled ball flight that penetrates the wind, giving you a huge edge on difficult days
  • The backspin needed to stop shots quickly on the green, and keep your longer irons and hybrids from bouncing into no-man's-land
  • Baby draws on command, so those left-side pins are no longer off-limits
  • Shot-shaping skills that give you tons of "green light" situations (while your buddies are aiming away from the flag)
  • Crisp contact from the tightest lies in the firmest conditions
  • No more super-fat iron shots when the turf is muddy or soft
  • A fundamentally sound swing that stands up to intense pressure
  • The self-knowledge to correct errors during practice or on the course - before they can ruin a round
  • Major improvement in your hybrid and fairway wood play
  • Far fewer misses overall - and mostly "good misses" when your swing is off
  • Lots more greens in regulation, meaning more birdies and pars
  • The leeway to have an off day with your driver, or even on the greens, without sending your score sky-high
  • Less pressure on your short game and putting
  • Fewer blowup holes that destroy good rounds
  • Lower scores, a lower handicap, and greater enjoyment of your favorite pastime

It's All Yours for the Taking with My Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass

So what exactly does the course include?

It's a four-week program (although it's go-at-your-own pace, so you can certainly finish faster than that)...

... Featuring 24 video lessons you can watch at your own pace (and they're yours forever)...

... Covering about 3.5 hours from start to finish...

... With every second geared toward a single goal:

To groove a swing that consistently takes sleek, "dollar bill" divots that bottom out 3" - 4" in front of the ball.

That's the sweet spot, so to speak. Because when your divots fit that description, it means:

  • You've got your hands ahead of the clubhead and the shaft leaning forward at impact
  • The clubface is dead square and delofted just the right amount, and...
  • Your swing is perfectly sequenced, with the shoulders, arms and hips moving in harmony to produce pure contact and piercing, on-target shots
divot slow

By the end of the course, you could be making ball-first contact with machine-like consistency.

Add it up and you've got a swing that:

... Compresses the ball, like all pros and top-level amateurs...

... Rarely if ever hits a true chunk or bladed shot...

... Is practically slice-proof, and...

... Has a massive margin of error built right in, so...

Even your worst shots will be better than the average golfer's good ones.

Up to this point, I've told you why it's critical to build a swing that produces ball-then-turf contact with the irons and wedges (plus the hybrids and fairway woods).

Now, I'll go over the nuts and bolts of my Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass - so you'll see how it's gonna get you to the next level you're aiming for. And maybe the level above that.

A trio of "tests" form the centerpiece of the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass (and ensure you're constantly progressing).

All three tests are scored the same way, from 0 - 10, based on where your divots are in relation to the ball.

  • 0 = no divots, or all divots behind the ball
  • 10 = all divots in the perfect spot

The first test, at the very beginning of the course, serves as your baseline. (If you score a 10 here, go ahead and ask for your money back - you don't need this course!)

The second test comes about midway through the Masterclass and gauges your progress from the beginning. While you'll almost certainly see improvement in your score, you'll know if you need to back up and repeat any of the drills you've learned.

The third and final test comes, naturally, at the end of the course. By now, your score should be much higher than your baseline number.

If you score a perfect 10, well, you just might be ready to try the Tour.

The whole point of these little exams is to ensure you're not just learning the moves needed to make ball-first contact, you're actually integrating them into your swing permanently - and getting better with each new drill.

In addition to the tests, you'll find three types of lessons in each week's videos.

Indoor drills (you can do at home), outdoor drills (usually for the range) and what I call "mindset" drills.

For example, some folks wonder if it's really necessary to go at the pace I recommend, which involves lots of half swings and rehearsals.

I explain the method to my madness, with scientific data to back it up. "Go slow to improve fast," I always say, and research proves that it's true.

The goal is to get you into the "learning zone," where your reps are paying off in continual, measurable progress.

And what will that look like by the time you're done with the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass?

progress

Drills like this will not only improve your contact, they’ll build powerful lag while grooving an inside-to-out club path (for draws on demand).

Well, you'll be the proud owner of a swing that's easily repeatable and beautifully synchronized, with your upper and lower body working in unison...

... While your hands are passive (trust me, it's a good thing) with great feel for the clubhead...

... Your transition is perfectly timed from backswing to downswing...

... You generate tons of powerful lag, then...

... Enter impact on a shallow, inside-to-out path...

... Automatically square the clubface at impact, with no need to manipulate the club with your hands, and...

... "Trap" the ball with the kind of compression all golfers covet... but few ever experience.

If you think a swing like that would look good, wait till you see your iron and wedge shots.

For the first time ever, I've packaged my very best iron and wedge drills into one game-changing course: The Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass

In this training, I show you some of the best drills we use during Top Speed Golf's 2-Day Distance Clinics, which draw attendees from all over the world (who pay thousands of bucks to be there).

Do these drills and, in a single range session, you could gain 10 - 20 yards off the tee, while maintaining or even improving your accuracy.

One thing I hope you'll take away from the video is that it's OK to swing hard - and I mean really hard. That's how even smaller pros, like Rory McIlroy, bomb it way past 300 yards.

You'll also learn drills for improving your turn and your weight shift for more power.

I'd be surprised if you don't add at least 5 MPH of clubhead speed in a single day. That translates to an extra 12+ yards off the tee.

You get lifetime access to this video, so you can rewatch and refresh your distance skills at any time, anywhere.

Hopefully, I've given you all the info you need about the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass. But if you're still uncertain about anything, this next section should clear things up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass different from your Ball Striking Masterclass?

Think of the Ball Striking Masterclass as a broad-based course that's best suited to the golfer whose shots are, well, kind of all over the place - everything from snap hooks to monster slices.

In the Ball Striking Masterclass, we emphasize the “Big 4” of contact – club face control, dialing in your swing path, where your club strikes the ground, and where the club face strikes the ball.

It’s 13 weeks worth of in-depth lessons – the whole ball striking enchilada, if you will.

The Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass, on the other hand, is laser-focused on fixing fat and thin contact.

If those tend to be your main misses, but you hit the ball fairly straight and near the center of the face, the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass will cure the swing issues at the root of the problem.

And you'll see more than just slightly better contact. You'll get dramatic results in a very short time. Ball-Then-Turf is just four weeks of lessons, and you can easily finish faster than that.

Q: I typically practice by hitting balls off a mat, rather than natural grass. Will I still be able to do the drills in this course?

Absolutely. I kept the mat issue in mind when filming the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass - in fact, I suggest a few different ways to check your divot location when you're not on actual turf.

You'll also notice that many drills only call for you to brush the surface, so a mat, rug or your back yard grass will work perfectly fine.

I'll also say that while it's not necessary for this course, the Divot Board training aid is a great tool for reading your divots. It shows you not only where your club strikes the ground, but whether it's open or shut, heel or toe down, and even the club's path at impact.

Q: I definitely want to improve my approach shots, but will the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass do anything to help my driving?

Yes.

The same principles that apply to hitting irons and wedges work with the driver, too. For example, the class emphasizes proper weight shift and building lag - two major keys to driving distance and accuracy.

Basically, it's a simple matter of ball position. As long as you've got the driver teed up off your lead instep, the rest takes care of itself.

OK, let's revisit that money-back guarantee I mentioned earlier...

You'd probably like to know how much money we're talking here.

Well, if you weren't part of the very FIRST group of golfers to get a shot at the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass...

You'd be looking at a price of $499.

And in my humble opinion, you'd be getting a major steal.

BUT... because we're just now launching the course, and we want to generate a massive number of success stories...

For a limited time you can get access to the complete Ball-Then-Turf Masterclassfor a single payment of only $299.

Now, this deal will disappear when the doors close when the timer on this page expires.

So the time to get in - and save a cool 200 bucks - is right now.

Hey, that's money you can spend on a round or two at an upscale course...

Maybe a sweet new pair of golf shoes (plus a glove, a hat or a towel)...

Or that customized wedge you've been jonesing for.

You could look at it another way, too, by thinking of all the golf stuff you can't get for under $300.

Now that is one long list.

Let's see... a new driver? That's at least double the price of my Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass.

A weekend with a couple of rounds at a decent resort? Surely you jest.

How about some one-on-one lessons with a local pro?

Well, if they charge $100 an hour - and I'm low-balling here - you'd get a whopping three one-hour sessions.

And while I'm sure you'd improve...

I seriously doubt your investment would pay off like the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass.

Not to mention that once your lesson with a local pro is done, that’s it. It’s over. With the Ball-Then-Turf -Masterclass, you have access to your lessons 24/7 for life. You can revisit them as often as you need to.

Here's the thing:

This course is my answer to those who have asked to work with me in person, over the course of multiple lessons...

But done from the comfort of your own home...

And for a FRACTION of the cost.

I challenged myself to put together a program that was the closest experience to working with me one-on-one...

With the goal of making consistently clean, ball-first contact, and doing it automatically, for as long as you play golf.

I believe I've achieved that with the Ball-Then-Turf Masterclass

And I believe that if you take this course while committing to do everything in order and at the prescribed pace...

Then by the time you're done, you'll by the proud owner of a swing that produces:

  • More distance with your irons and wedges, so you're hitting a shorter club into every green (even if your drives don't get longer... which they will thanks to improved mechanics)
  • A 4" - 6" margin of error in the impact zone, so your worst misses are playable (and extremely rare, at that)
  • A controlled ball flight that cuts through wind (while your buddies struggle to keep it in play)
  • Superior distance control, so you finish pin-high more often than you come up way short or long
  • Baby draws, but also soft fades when you need them
  • Solid contact whether the turf is baked out, soggy or perfect
  • Reliable results under intense pressure
  • Better stats from tee to green - as in, more fairways and greens in regulation
  • Birdie opportunities galore in every round... and the occasional eagle putt, too
  • Tons of routine pars
  • Very few double-bogeys
  • Respectable scores on your lousy days
  • Fist pumps left and right on your great days
  • The possibility for a personal best every time you tee it up

Obviously, I can't speak for you...

But if someone offered me all of that...

For only a modest investment of time and effort...

And a monetary investment of less than 300 bucks, well...

I'd hit the order button below faster than you can say...

"Ball-Then-Turf contact for the win..."
